This code memorandum clarifies and puts into writing to all designers, installers, and inspectors what the City of Chicago requirements are for gas piping. The items noted in the memorandum incorporate the National Fuel Gas Code, along with industry standards for gas piping installation inside of a building.
This memorandum is long overdue for the City of Chicago. Code Section 18-28-1400 was vaguely written and left much to the interpretation of the reader. This update brings greater clarity to the city’s requirements. From the standpoint of engineering and design, the items in the memorandum should be noted on the drawings and/or indicated in the project specifications.
