Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is the process that is better known as mediation. Our Circuit has an ADR program which is financed by funds included in the filing fee for each civil case filed within our Circuit. The case manager for the judge assigned to your case is assigned the additional task of managing the ADR program for their assigned judge. Our program utilizes mediators (also known as neutrals) who have special training and experience in leading mediation sessions. The mediators have all been trained and approved by the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution. The Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution has also approved the program administered in the Columbia Judicial Circuit.
In all civil, non-domestic relations matters, mediation is required. Our judges frequently also order mediation to occur in many domestic relations matters, but mediation is not automatically required as in civil, non-domestic relations, cases. If your case has been referred to our ADR program because the assigned judge has entered an order requiring mediation, your judge's case manager will be in contact with you and/or your attorney to advise you of the ADR process in our program.
